Rules & Regulations

Students have a number of venues for actively setting the direction of their Student Union: referenda, general assemblies and elections. These decisions help prioritise the activities and operations of the Union throughout the year.

General Assemblies

General assemblies also allow the members to shape the direction of their union. During the fall General Assembly members adopt the DSU budget & ratify ammendments to the Bylaws. During the spring general assembly members receive the report of the auditor, the financial statements of the union, and the Executive's report.

Special General Assemblies may be called upon receipt by the Chairperson of a petition containing the business to be tranacted and duly signed by no less than five percent (5%) of the members of the Union.

Referenda

Referenda are a means for students to vote on important issues. Referenda take place during elections, except for strike votes which may be called at anytime by a petition from the membership. This is a way for students to vote on important issues with complete secrecy. Referenda take place over a long voting period allowing vast numbers of students to participate. Referenda, just like general assemblies, are the highest decision makers of the union.

Executive Council Meetings

The Executive Council generally meets on a weekly basis.  These meetings are open to all members of the Union.  Notice of convening is sent out 48 hours prior to the meeting.
